Fictional Style Icon: Veronica Lodge

I’m going to be completely honest here: I couldn’t get into Riverdale.

The comic book fan in me was disappointed in myself, as was the part of me that easily fell in love with every other comic-based show on The CW. I tried to convince myself that it was just too little, too late— that perhaps if it had debuted just a few years prior, I would have been all about it, but the truth is that I never really enjoyed teen dramas as a whole, even when I was the target audience. People looked at me like I was an alien when I'd say I never watched shows like Degrassi or Gossip Girl, but the melodramatics, the campiness, the cringe-worthy over-sexualization of underage characters-- it never appealed to me.

But, credit will be paid where credit's due: the ladies of Riverdale are undeniably chic, with one, in particular, holding the status of a style icon since she was created over seventy (!!!) years ago. Veronica Lodge has certainly evolved as a character over the years, but her impeccable sense of style and seemingly endless wardrobe has, for the most part, stayed the same.

Most of Veronica's outfits have a 40's noir vibe to them. I like to think that this is a playful nod to the origins of Archie Comics, but it could also just be used to further the film noir vibe Riverdale seems to be going for. Either way, she looks amazing in her black dresses, red lipsticks, and matching pearl necklace and bracelet sets.

If I could dress the way Veronica does every day, I probably would. Her outfits almost always meet all my requirements for something I'd want to wear. Consistently in black or dark jewel tones? Check. Lots of skirts and dresses? Check. Accessories that range from adorable contrast collars to capes that reach a level of extra I can only aspire to? Check and check!

You can catch Riverdale Wednesday nights at 8 PM EST on the CW, or stream season one on Netflix now.

Love Veronica's polished looks? Then you'll also love last week's style icon, Olivia Pope.
